Sunsetting Google Drive Support in HighTop

After March 15, 2025, HighTop will no longer provide Google Drive access.
I almost never cut functionality from my apps, and I'm sorry to disappoint HighTop users that rely on it for working with Google Drive. This wasn’t an easy decision, and I want to be transparent about the reason behind it.
Last year, Google introduced mandatory yearly security assessment (CASA) for all apps using the Google Drive API, and I spent a significant amount of time going through the assessment for HighTop. At that time, I felt that this was worth the time investment because I built up a reproducible workflow that I could use to provide reassessment every year.
This year, Google changed the requirements and any apps using the Google Drive API have to get the security assessment performed by a third party. Even at a discounted rate for the first year, the cost of the security assessment far exceeds the revenue generated by HighTop in a year.
I explored various alternatives to keep some form of Google Drive support alive in HighTop, but the reality is that this is the only route that makes sense at this time.
What does this mean for you?
- After March 15, 2025, you will no longer be able to connect to Google Drive from within HighTop.
- Any existing data stored within Google Drive will remain untouched and accessible directly through Google Drive. HighTop simply won't be able to access it.
- Local file and Dropbox support will still remain the same in HighTop.
I’ve always loved using HighTop to access my Google Drive, and am sad to leave it behind.
